PADANG TERAP – The Ministry of Education welcomes the government’s proposal to build new Tahfiz schools that are capable of offering academic and skill opportunities to its students.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the present Tahfiz schools focussed more on the memorisation of the Al-Quran which made it hard for students to secure jobs in the future as they had no academic qualification.
“With these new Tahfiz schools, they will get an academic qualification and skills certification to enable them to compete in the job market,” he told reporters after launching the ‘Ziarah Kasih Bikers Guru 1Malaysia’ programme that was attended by 200 teachers who possessed high-powered motorcycles nationwide here today.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who had chaired a supreme committee meeting on the welfare of Tahfiz schools said the government had agreed to build a school in Bagan Datuk, Perak.
However, Mahdzir said currently it had not been decided yet to which ministry the school would be assigned under. – BERNAMA
