SEPANG – National Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin is confident of starting from a better grid in the 2014 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Sepang Circuit tomorrow.
On the second practice session today, the Ongetta-Air Asia racer produced an encouraging performance to take the 14th place clocking 2 minutes 15.11 seconds which was better than the first practice session this morning.
In the first practice session, Zulfahmi was in the 18th spot in 2 minutes 16.016 seconds.
“I am pleased with the race today as I was not under any pressure and teamwork was good. Tomorrow, we will be using a new strategy to improve further.
“In action at home gives me the drive, I hope local fans will come to cheer us tomorrow and on Sunday,” he told reporters after completing the second practice session here today.
Apart from Zulfahmi, the other local rider in the Moto3 category was Hafiq Azmi of SIC-AJO team who finished in the 21st spot with a time of 2’15.819s in the same practice session.
Hafiq, who is in his first full season outing this year, said he wanted to complete within the top 15 in front of the home crowd in Sepang.
Meanwhile, Moto3 wildcards, Ramdan Rosli (Petronas AHM Malaysia) and Hafiza Rofa (SIC-AJO) both recorded 2’16.370s and 2’16.652s to take the 28th and 29th positions respectively.
In the second practice session today, Niccolo Antonelli (Junior Team GO&Fun Moto3) clocked the fastest time of 2’13.583s followed by Jakub Kornfeil (Calvo Team) in 2’13.599s while Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) emerged third fastest in 2’13.604. – BERNAMA
