ZAYN Malik has announced that he’s signed to RCA Records as he readies his solo career after leaving One Direction.
The 22-year-old singer – who made a shock departure from boy band earlier this year – has revealed he is ready to show people who he “really is” with his new music, suggesting that he wasn’t able to be himself before.
Dropping the news on Twitter on Wednesday night, he captioned a photograph of him signing a record deal: “I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !! … #REALME (sic)”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Zayn had been dropped from Simon Cowell’s Syco record label, which he was under throughout his time in One Direction.
A source told The Sun at the time: “It’s a big move for Simon because Zayn could have a very successful solo career but his priority absolutely remains the band and this is a big statement on his part.
“Simon has set up a deal that suits Zayn and One Direction. Zayn will stay in the Sony family under different label and it’s totally with Simon Cowell’s blessing.
“It was just felt to be a bit difficult to have 1D and Zayn on the same label – and everyone felt it was better for him to be somewhere different. Since leaving the band, Zayn has changed management and lawyers so it would kind of make sense for him to work with a new label team.”
RCA Records is the American flagship recording label and part of Sony Music Entertainment.
Its impressive roster features the likes of A$AP Rocky, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, D’Angelo, Christina Aguilera, Miguel, Miley Cyrus and more.
Zayn revelled in his happy news with his fans on Twitter, sharing several fans’ messages of support.
“Is this zayn’s moment he’s taking off his hannah montana wig and now he’s miley cyrus (sic),” to which he replied “that’s so funny!” with a laughing emoji.
Zayn also retweeted a message from a fan who was over-awed by his impressive label mates, as they wrote: “Zayn got signed to the same record label as Chris Brown, G-Eazy, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Prince Royse and Alisha Keys JUST IMAGINE.”
Some Directioners got themselves into a frenzy over the weekend with the possibility that Zayn might be heading back to One Direction.
The Twitter trend emerged on Sunday, causing a meltdown, so they’ll be bitter to learn that he’s bagged himself his own deal.
Fans were using the hashtag #ZaynIsComingBackOnJuly26 has begun trending – with absolutely no explanation at all.
One wrote: “PLEASE STOP PLAYING WITH THE FEELINGS OF ZAYN GIRLS! WE’VE HAD ENOUGH!”
Another added: “HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE TRENDED THIS WITHOUT CONFIRMATION.”
The news comes as it was reported that Zayn has been working with Frank Ocean’s producer, Malay.
The former boy band star has been spending time in the studio with the Grammy-winning producer in Los Angeles for the past week as he works on tracks for his debut solo album.
A music insider told The Sun newspaper: “Malay is a hugely successful producer and is well respected within the industry too.
“After the way his relationship with Naughty Boy ended, Zayn could not be in better hands.”
The 36-year-old producer – who has previously worked with John Legend and Alicia Keys, as well as producing Frank Ocean’s critically-acclaimed record ‘Channel Orange’ – has been helping the hunk out after he spectacularly blasted his former producer Naughty Boy on Twitter.
The pair had been working together ever since Zayn quit 1D back in March, but he reportedly grew tired of the producer using him for his fame and insulted him on Twitter.
In the harsh message, which has been retweeted over 500,000 times, he wrote: “you fat joke stop pretending we’re friends no one knows you . (sic)”
However, Malay – who is known for his R&B and hip hop records – seems like the perfect choice for Zayn, who Naughty Boy previously said was working on “soulful” music.
He said: “He’s making a very soulful record.
“He’s writing, himself, on it as well.
“I think it’s worth the wait, I think the less I say about it the better. I think it’ll all make sense soon. Zayn’s his own man, no one can tell Zayn what to do, especially me.”
Well, the confirmation is here – Zayn has moved on. – Mirror
