IPOH- Former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic) will only be contesting for a supreme council seat in the Umno party polls.
A source close to Dr Zambry confirmed the matter and said that the state Umno chairman only wants to be part of the team to rebuild and restore the party.
A picture of Dr Zambry showing his intention to contest a seat in the supreme council has gone up on social media.
“He just wants to be part of the team. He wants to be contribute,” the source said.
He said that Dr Zambry just wants to get things done and not contest the higher positions that do not matter to him.
“You know Dr Zambry, he’s not so ambitious in politics,” he added.
On Monday (June 18), Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed the names of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Khairy Jamaluddin as among the seven for the presidency but refused to reveal the remaining four names.
A total of 612 nomination papers were filed for all positions, with the vice-president’s post receiving nine nominations while the deputy president had three.
