KUALA LUMPUR – The Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today set April 10 to mention a drug case involving former vocalist of a pop group, Slam, Zamani, and his personal assistant.
Magistrate Ayuni Izzaty Sulaiman set the date pending the completion of a chemist report and other documents on the case.
Zamani, 43, whose full name is Zamani Ibrahim, and Nur Juliana Abdul Rani, 32, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of jointly possessing 1.2gm of heroin in Taman Keramat here at about 12.30 am last Jan 21.
They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or a jail term not exceeding five years, or both.
On the second charge, the singer, whose popular songs included â€œGerimis Mengundangâ€, was alleged to have taken morphine at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office, Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 2am on the same date.
Nur Juliana was also charged with taking amphetamine at about 2.05am at the same time and place.
The offence, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or jailed for up to two years, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurdeenie Abdul Rashid prosecuted.
Meanwhile, Zamani’s lawyer, Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar, when met outside the court, said his client was in rehabilitation and would be at the rehabilitation centre for another five months before he would be ready to return to the society.- BERNAMA
