PUTRAJAYA: The sharing of information and intelligence between Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore helped thwart ‎a planned attack on Marina Bay last week.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) said that Malaysia too had played an important role in foiling the attempt, underscoring close cooperation between Southeast Asian countries to fight militancy and terrorism.

“Malaysia is not only committed to fight terror on its soil but also the region and worldwide.

“Information sharing between us had made it easier for authorities to act swiftly to prevent any untoward incident,” he said after a briefing on security issues to the diplomatic corps here.

Six Indonesian men, who had allegedly plotted ‎to attack Marina Bay in Singapore using a rocket launched from Batam, were arrested by the country’s elite forces last Friday.

Aged between 19 and 46, ‎the suspects are purportedly part of a terror cell called KGR@Katibah GR, which is said to have links to Bahrun Naim, the alleged mastermind behind the shopping mall bomb attack in Jakarta earlier this year.
