BERA: Umno leaders at all levels have been told to resolve internal problems to ensure the party continues to govern the country in future.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) said they needed to take a lesson from the country as well as world history that witnessed many powers such as Russia, the Netherlands, France and the Melaka Malay Sultanate Empire fell due to internal woes.
He said Barisan Nasional had even lost power in Perak, Terengganu and Kelantan due to internal unrest as a result of dissatisfaction with the leadership.
“Enough. Resolve internal problems. Do not entertain feelings of anger and disappointment among us.
“We do not want it to happen again in Umno and Barisan because the price is too costly. Leaders have their weakness because they are not infallible, so we give and take,” he said when opening the Bera Umno division meeting yesterday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also advised party leaders not to take the political power that the party currently held for granted.
He said they must always remember that unless they work hard, the party might lose its power as what happened in Kelantan.
“The leaders must come down to see and check what is happening at the grassroots level. We must continue to instil confidence in the people, particularly the youths,” he added.
Opening the Kuala Selangor Umno division meeting later, Dr Ahmad Zahid also called on members in Selangor to close ranks to take Selangor back from Pakatan Harapan.
