KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today received a courtesy call from Australian Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Counter-Terrorism, Michael Keenan.
The 30-minute meeting held on the sidelines of the International Conference on Deradicalisation and Countering Violence Extremism 2016 (IDC 2016), was to, among other things, discuss security issues and efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, represented Malaysia in the first session of the conference on Policy on Deradicalisation.
Also involved in the session were Keenan, General Anupong Paojinda (Thailand Minister of Interior), Petrus Golose (Director for International Cooperation, Indonesian Antiterrorism Agency) and Liu Yuenjin (China Deputy Minister of Public Security).
The two-day IDC 2016 saw the participation of Ministers from ASEAN Countries and nine Malaysia’s Strategic Partners namely Australia, France, Italy, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. – BERNAMA
