KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister will have the final say on whether or not Umno supports PAS’ Private Members Bill, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, the Deputy Prime Minister said the decision would depend on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“The Bill is currently Number Four in the Order Paper and whatever decision made (by Parliament) is the speaker’s jurisdiction.
“Whether or not Umno supports it, it is up to the Prime Minister and it would depend on the situation,” he said.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had in May tabled a Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965
However, soon after tabling it, he had requested for debates relating to the Bill to be postponed to the next session.
