ALOR STAR – A jobless youth was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the High Court here today for committing culpable homicide against Noor Syafikah Nadia Abdullah, 14, one of the three sisters from Alor Semela who were murdered on Nov 2013.
Judicial Commissioner Dr Choo Kah Sing passed down the sentence on Mohd Firdaus Mohd Faridul, 20, after taking into account the severity of the crime and the public interest.
The court ordered the jail sentence to run from the date of his arrest on Jan 15, 2014.
Firdaus earlier claimed trial to a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murdering Syafikah’s but had pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder which carries maximum imprisonment of 30 years.
He had committed the offence at an abandoned padi field in Kampung Alor Senibong here between 9.30pm and 11.30pm on Nov 29, 2013.
It was reported Syafikah’s semi-nude body was found at an abandoned padi field in Alor Senibong a day after she and her two younger sisters went missing from their home in Alor Semela.
The bodies of her sisters Nur Izzati Husna Rusdi, 12, and Puteri Nurul Akma Rusdi, 3, were retrieved a day later from an irrigation canal in Padang Petani, about 2.4km away from where Syafikah’s body was found on Dec 1. – NST
