KUALA LUMPUR – A Malaysian Youth Parliament member today called for flood relief centres (FRCs) to be more women-friendly.
Perak representative Nur Najihah Muhaimin said from her experience in helping flood victims, it was not something “impossible to be implemented”.
“We must respect the needs of womenfolk so that they will feel more comfortable when evacuated to FRCs,” she said when debating a motion on the flood disaster that has hit the country on the second day of sitting of the assembly at Parliament House here.
Meanwhile, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur representative Shahril Sufian Hamdan called for the leadership at the local level to be the “biggest movers” to help victims in flood situations.
Sabah representative Syed Mohd Hamizan Roslan called for uniformity in handling flood situations int the variou states.
The motion which called for more effective management of flood disasters including adopting the Blue Ocean Strategy received unanimous backing. – BERNAMA
