KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Youth Parliament today suggested that appropriate attention be given to empower education on parenting, especially to young couples who were recently married to empower the family institution in the country.
The proposal was made by the Spiritual and Religious Committee of the Malaysian Youth Parliament which said that the module on family education must be included in the national issues which should be given attention.
“Knowledge on parenting should not be taken lightly especially by the younger generation because parents are the ones who mould the personality of the younger generation and control social problems and consequently churn out human capital of integrity,” according to a member of the committee, Mohamad Fikri Ali when tabling the motion at the second session of the Malaysian Youth Parliament, at Parliament House, here.
Mohamad Fikri, a representative from Sarawak, said the mass media must also play a role in disseminating information on educational programs on the family institution, especially organised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM).
Selangor representative Muhamad Ridhwan Muhamad Rosli, when debating the motion, concurred that the involvement of young couples in programs on the family institution, especially organised by the government, was still low.
The motion was passed unanimously by members of the sitting. – BERNAMA
