KOTA BAHARU: The Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) will provide explanation to about 3,000 contributors of its “Amal Jariah” fund who have terminated their monthly subscription through salary deduction to the foundation.
Its director-general, Datuk Abibullah Samsudin said YaPEIM believed that it was only a temporary measure by the contributors concerned and that they would continue with their contribution after the allegation of misappropriation of funds hurled at the foundation was proven not true.
“We will sent press statements and related matters to them so that they understand what is really happening,” he told reporters after a closed-door briefing session on issues facing YaPEIM here Sunday night.
The programme was organised by a non-governmental organisation, the Council of Kelantan Professionals and was attended by, among others, YaPEIM Board of Trustees deputy chairman Datuk Siti Zaleha Hussien and a member of the board, Prof Datuk Mahamad Naser Disa (rpt: Mahamad Naser Disa).
Abibullah said YaPEIM now had about 5,000 contributors under the “Amal Jariah” fund who contributed between RM1 and RM500 a month through salary deduction.
In a related development, he said an internal investigation was being conducted by YaPEIM on the leak of information on the foundation’s financial management, besides the investigation by the police.
He said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has also called an officer from the foundation for statement, but declined to elaborate the matter.
YaPEIM is making headlines since last week following claims of misappropriation of fund and excessive allowance payment to its top management personnel.
