SHAH ALAM – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah has expressed his pride at Universiti Teknologi Mara, (UiTM) being picked as joint organiser of the Global Economic Symposium, (GES) recently.
He said the recognition of the government of UiTM to collaborate with Germany in GES in September boosted its image and placed it on the world map.
“I am confident UiTM is capable of building a more illustrous future with the honour given to it recently when it became a joint organiser of GES.
“UiTM is recognised in the organisation of international events. Congratulations UiTM,” he said at the first session of the 81st UiTM Convocation ceremony at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor at the main campus here, today.
Also present was Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
Tuanku Abdul Halim said he wanted all denizens of UiTM to continue efforts in taking UiTM to the forefront of pursuing global education modernisation.
He also urged UiTM graduates to make full use of the space and opportunity given to create more successes in the future.
“As Chancellor, I am very proud of UiTM’s achievement. I understand, UiTM is listed between 651st and 700th position by QS Ranking International and 601st and 650th by Times Higher Education World University Ranking.
“These recognition show the surge in UiTM’s success in ensuring its academic quest is comparable with other renowned universities in the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, the recipient of the Seri Paduka Baginda Tuanku Canselor medal for excellence in academic and co-curriculum, Muhammad Azril Izuan Ramlan, regarded the award as special and a present to his family and the teaching staff.
The 24-year-old who hails from Rawang, Selangor said his interest in Mass Communication also helped him to be excellent academically.
“I am really keen about Mass Communication, so it was quite easy for me to pick up all subjects taught by my lecturers.
“Based on this, I have received an offer to work at Plus Malaysia Berhad (Plus) as its Strategic Communication Executive after completing my practical training at Plus in September,” said Muhammad Azril who has been working for a year with the company.
A total 31,532 graduates will be receiving their degrees and diplomas at the convocation. – BERNAMA
