KOTA KINABALU – Sepanggar UMNO Division acting chief Datuk Yakub Khan has been appointed the Barisan Nasional chairman for the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency effective today.
Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made the announcement at a special meeting with BN component parties at the Sepanggar UMNO office.
Yakub said he was grateful to the party top leadership for having placed their trust in him to lead Sepanggar BN and said he would strive hard to ensure a BN victory in Sepanggar in the 14th General Election.
He said the appointment was not a privilege but a huge responsibility to ensure that BN remained relevant.
“At the meeting, the Prime Minister advised all component party leaders and committees to step up the preparations for the 14th General Election.
“The Prime Minister is confident BN can retain the Sepanggar parliamentary seat and the Karambunai state seat and wants us to recapture the Inanam state seat,” he said.
Yakub said he and the Sepanggar BN leadership would fully support anyone selected to contest the BN parliamentary seat in the next general election. – BERNAMA
