KUALA LUMPUR – World number five, Caroline Wozniacki came from behind to win her 23rd WTA title after beating Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru in the final of the 2015 BMW Malaysian Open at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC), here Sunday.

The top seeded Danish player took the crown after outclassing Dulgheru 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 50-minute battle, tonight.

“She tried to play aggressively by hitting the ball early. You know she had a tough match yesterday so I just kept playing my game and applying pressure on the game in the second and third sets and it paid off.

“It is nice, I am excited for Indian Wells, one of my favourite tournament of the season, hopefully I can play well there,” said the 24 year-old who secured her first singles title of the year.

Wozniacki, who last won the WTA title in July last year at Istanbul, had also defeated Dulgheru, ranked 94th, in the second round of the 2015 Qatar Total Open in Doha. The victory came with a US$43,000 (RM158,485.00) prize money for Wozniacki.

Meanwhile, Chen Liang and Yafan Wang of China won the double’s title after crashing Ukranian duo Yuliysa Beygelzimer/Olga Savchuk 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in one hour 25 minutes.

“At the beginning of the match, we were a little nervous but when the match went on…we felt better. Finally, in the second set we played our normal game and won,” Liang told reporters after the match.

The duo bagged US$12,300 (RM45,334.00) in the WTA and Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) sanctioned tournament that offered total prize money of US$250,000 (RM911,750).

“This is our second appearance together and we played very well… Liang played close to the net since I can play better from the baseline. So, it is a good combination and we are looking forward to playing more tournaments,” Wang said.
