in Latest

KUALA LUMPUR: A cylindrical fire extinguisher weighing a mere 400 gm will be handy during a small fire, instead of the 10 kg version commonly found in the country.

New age fire extinguisher Mangiafuocco will enter the Malaysian market in May and will be distributed by Global Combined Technology Sdn Bhd.

Company director Major (Rtd) Zainal Abdullah said the Italian made product was well received in Europe and would be marketed in the security segment (security companies) and the commercial segment (the public).

Besides the small size and lightness, Mangiafuocco has the ability to put out fires for longer period compared to other existing brands in the market.

“Due to its design and size, it can be held by a child, and can easily put out fires in A, B, C categories, small scale electrical and electronic fires.

“It uses compressed potassium powder and can put out fire for 50 to 100 seconds compared to conventional fire extinguishers weighing 10 kg that can only put out fire for 10 to 19 seconds,” he told Bernama at Defence Services Asia 2016 (DSA) exhibition held at Putra World Trade Centre, here today.

Mangiafuocco’s ability to put out fires and ease of use was acknowledged by security companies from Italy and Germany.

The product was also easy to maintain as it did not need checks of every six months like older fire extinguishers as it had a product warranty of five years.

Zainal said the product’s final price for the public has not being finalised but added it will cost between RM400 and RM480.
