KOTA BARU: The mother of a five-year-old boy who was allegedly sodomised by an elderly relative is calling for justice.
She claimed that there had been no news since a police report was lodged last month.
There has been no development in the case although her son had singled out a suspect in an identification parade, said the 29-year-old mother.
“I am a poor kampung woman. And my son has not been the same after the incident,” she said at her house here. The five-year-old boy is the youngest of three children. In relating the incident that allegedly took place on July 20, she said her son came home crying and complained that his anus hurt.
“When I asked him what happened, he told me that an older relative had promised to give him a watch and had sodomised him.
“I was stunned. I took him to the hospital and the doctor confirmed that there was penetration in my son’s anus,” said the housewife. The hospital authorities, she said, reported the matter to the Welfare Department and police.
She went to the police on July 21.
She also claimed that family members of the elderly relative had “threatened” her to settle the matter.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Baharom Abu, when contacted, said the case was still being investigated and that police had arrested a 62-year-old man.
He said the suspect was allowed police bail owing to his age and physical condition.
ACP Baharom said police were waiting for a medical report from the hospital before handing the case to the state Deputy Public Prosecutor for follow-up action.
