KUALA LUMPUR – Wisma Putra will discuss with the representative from the North Korean Embassy here on the position of Malaysian nationals who are prevented from leaving that country.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia wanted to resolve the diplomatic issue with the North Korean delegtion which was still in Malaysia.
“The Malaysian government is now looking at the safety of our nationals in Pyongyang, North Korea and I believe that the North Koreans are also concerned about the safety of its nationals in Malaysia.
“What is important is that Malaysia maintains diplomatic ties with North Korea, I believe they (the North Koreans) will act rationally,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the handing over of prizes for a Novel Writing Competition for Youths, here today.
There are 11 Malaysian nationals currently in North Korea comprising three officials and staff of the Malaysian Embassy, six of their family members and two others from the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations (UN).- BERNAMA
