KUALA LUMPUR – Three weak earthquakes were detected in Ranau, Sabah, since 4.10 am today, with the first measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
In a statement issued here Sunday, the department said the second earthquake, measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale was recorded 24 minutes later and the third, measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale, at 6.09 am.
A spokesman at the department, when contacted by Bernama, said the department received reports from residents on the tremor felt from the first and third earthquake, but there was no report on the tremor for the second earthquake.
The department is monitoring the situation.
Last June 5, Ranau was hit by a moderate earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, which claimed 18 lives. – BERNAMA
