KUALA LUMPUR: Cupid’s arrow is striking its mark at Wanita MCA’s speed dating events with more men signing up and more couples getting hitched.
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie said there was a 5% increase in the number of men aged 30 and below who signed up for the events between 2012 and this year.
“Previously, the men tended to shy away from such programmes. Most of them were too focused on their careers. They were too busy to meet new people out of their social circles,†Heng said.
“Apart from their workplaces, they did not have many avenues to find a suitable partner.â€
She said the diminishing role of parents in matchmaking and the increasingly “introverted†generaÂtion had led to more and more Chinese remaining single.
To remedy this, Wanita MCA organises Cupid Space Speed Dating Hi-Tea Party annually.
“The event is a platform for men and women to meet 110 other singles of the opposite sex,†said Heng.
Programme executor Peggy Lim claimed that 10% of the participants in past events managed to start a relationship with someone they met at the party.
“This year alone, we have 17 couples informing us that they are getting married,†said Lim, who has been organising the events for Wanita MCA for the past 14 years.
This year’s event will be held at Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya on Dec 14 from 11.30am to 4pm.
Those interested may register at Level 13, Wisma MCA on Nov 29, Nov 30 and Dec 7 from noon to 4pm.
