KUALA LUMPUR – Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia is seeking to sustain market share this year.
Managing Director Erik Winters said the company sold over 648,000 units last year for an overall market share of 0.8 per cent as of February 2017.
“The bulk of sales will come from our completely knocked down models assembled in Pekan, Pahang,” he told reporters after the launch of the new Tiguan sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, here today.
Models assembled in Malaysia are the Volkswagen Passat and the Tiguan.
Winters said it is still early days for the SUV market in Malaysia.
“There is plenty of room to grow.As for us, we are hoping to sustain growth this year,” he added.
In the coming months, the company is looking to launch face lift models of the Beetle and Golf, while looking to expand dealerships in Johor Bahru by three more.
Meanwhile, the new 1.4 litre Volkswagen Tiguan, comes in two variations, namely the Comfortline and Highline, priced at RM148,990 and RM168,990 respectively. – BERNAMA
