SEMPORNA – Respecting other races and appreciating their contributions must be stressed in the effort to foster national unity, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Afdal.
He said similarities must be stressed in the daily lives of the multi-racial Malaysian society, and not only over religion and culture.
“We respect other races and appreciate their contributions because it is crucial in fostering unity. We must boost racial tolerance in this increasingly challenging world,” he said when met by reporters after a dinner with the Chinese community in the Semporna Parliamentary constituency here, last night.
Shafie, who is also Semporna Member of Parliament, said the advantage of Malaysia, with its racial and religious diversity, must be utilised for all to play their role to develop the nation.
He said racial and religious differences should be respected and not used as a factor to isolate oneself from others. – BERNAMA
