NILAI – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) won two gold awards and one silver award at the international innovations competition at the 2014 British Invention Show in London recently.
Its Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Datuk Dr Mustafa Mohd Hanefah said USIM won the ‘Gold Medal for Best Invention of The Year’ and ‘Special Double Gold Award Invention of The Year’ for a new innovative membrane product, the ‘Novel Active Membrane for Dyes Wastewater’ (ANF Membrane).
“The silver award was won for theÂ product ‘Crushy Snack Bar’,” he told a media conference held here today to announce the achievements.
Mustafa said the university also planned to commercialise the innovations of its students, such as theÂ ‘Crushy Snack Bar’ which already had several parties interested to commercialise it.
“The ‘Crushy Snack Bar’ is a high-fibre food which replaces snacks, with its concept of easy to eat, dry and small enough to be put into the pocket,” he said.
The ANF Membrane, created by the IMTL team, functions as a filter component in the textile and food industry, won 99.6 marks in the competition, beating 119 participants from more than 10 countries.
The BIS which was held at the Barbican Exhibition Centre, United Kingdom from Oct 22 to 25, is aimed at showcasing diverse inventions which could generate business opportunities. – BERNAMA
