Unit Price Of Felda Houses In Rompin Lowered From RM125,000 To RM90,000

KUALA LUMPUR – The government is offering houses priced at RM90,000 a unit as compared to the original price of RM125,000 a unit for the second generation of Felda settlers in the Rompin parliamentary constituency.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said for those who cannot afford to buy the houses, the government will provide a rental-ownership scheme whereby they could occupy the houses on a rental basis for the first five years at reasonable rates.

“The offer for sale after that will be subject to conditions and agreement by both parties,” he said in a statement on the Facebook PMO Malaysia account today.

Najib said the government was deeply concerned about home ownership in Felda schemes, particularly among the second generation.

He said the government’s commitment on this could be seen by the fact that 1,504 units of Perumahan Generasi Baharu FELDA houses were built in the Rompin parliamentary constituency, namely 480 units in FELDA Selancar 4/5, FELDA Keratong 4 (264), FELDA Selendang 2 (360) and FELDA Keratong 7 (400), which were originally priced at RM125,000 a unit, which was very much lower than the market rate.

“Understanding the problems of the new generation and demands for house prices review, I have instructed Felda director-general Datuk Hanapi Suhada to offer new pricing for these homes at a price of RM90,000 through the sale and purchase method,” said Najib.

The prime minister said the government would continue to lift the agenda of home ownership by the people, especially in Felda settlements.

“Hopefully, this announcement can help in realising the dreams of the second generations of Felda settlers, especially in the Rompin parliamentary contituency to own their dream houses,” he added.

Yesterday, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Rompin by-election Datuk Hasan Arifin had urged Najib to review the price structure for 18,000 units of houses for Felda’s second generation settlers in Rompin.

Hasan said this was because at RM120,000 to RM140,000 a unit, the houses were beyond the reach of these settlers. – BERNAMA
