KUALA LANGAT – The UMNO Youth machinery is prepared if an by-election is called for the Rompin parliamentary seat following the death of its incumbent, Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Saturday.
UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said although there was a possibility of two by-elections to be held soon, in Permatang Pauh and Rompin, the UMNO Youth was ready to be mobilised at any given time and he believed they would do their best.
After all matters related to the late Jamaluddin have been completed, I will call all UMNO Youth machinery for a meeting to discuss various issues on preparations of the two by-elections,” he told reporters after launching the Kuala Langat Parliamentary Constituency Sports League, here yesterday.
Jamaluddin, 63, who was the Member of Parliament for Rompin and PR1MA Malaysia Corporation chairman, was killed when the AS365N2 Dauphin helicopter he was travelling in to return home after attending the wedding reception of the prime minister’s daughter Nooryana Najwa in Pekan, Pahang, crashed at 4.45 pm.
The Permatang Pauh seat was left vacant after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, 68, was disqualified as Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament after the Pardons Board rejected a petition for a royal pardon sought by the opposition leader’s family over his sodomy conviction on Feb 24. – Bernama
