TUMPAT – Umno Youth is trying to contact young voters of Pengkalan Kubor living outside the state constituency to urge them to return to vote in the by-election on Sept 25.
Its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, said Umno Youth had received the list of young voters who were currently outside Kelantan.
“We will be contacting them to ask them to come back and vote,” he told reporters after handing over sports equipment to NGOs and sports bodies here today.
He also reminded the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth not to take lightly their work during the Pengkalan Kubor by-election campaign.
He said they needed to keep up the momentum to attract voters to the BN.
Khairy said that so far, through the programmes and visits organised by Umno Youth, the indications were that the youths in the area accepted the BN candidate.
The by-election is a three-cornered contest among Mat Razi Mat Ail (rpt) Ail of the BN, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
It is being held following the death of the three-term assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of the BN, on Aug 20.
Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
PKR has allowed PAS to contest the seat in the by-election. – BERNAMA
