KEPALA BATAS – UMNO has always upheld the power-sharing concept and has never grabbed power for the Malays, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The power-sharing concept practised by UMNO in Barisan Nasional (BN) had always ensured that the coalition (BN) emerged victorious in general elections, said the UMNO vice-president when opening the Kepala Batas Umno division delegates meeting, here today.
Also present were former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Deputy Foreign Minister and Kepala Batas UMNO division chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow and Penang UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also discharging the duties of UMNO deputy president following the sacking of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said in the context Penang, he felt that it was time for BN to wrest back the state.
He said the solidarity among BN component parties clearly portrays that the allies will assist each other in resolving problems.
“During the UMNO crisis in 1987, BN component partners helped UMNO. This time UMNO will help its friends in BN,” he said. – BERNAMA
