KUALA LUMPUR: Umno’s online membership system will ease bureaucracy and end problems that typically crop up when processing new recruitments.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the just-introduced system would make such issues a thing of the past.
“Previously, those wanting to become members faced a lot of bureaucracy.
“There were also cases of forms going missing, getting crumpled or not being received at all, including applicants having to re-fill forms two or three times,†he said.
The new system would solve these problems and obstacles faced by those seeking to join Umno, he said when launching it at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
There had been many claims of membership applications not being processed. There were even those who said they submitted the application more than twice but were never approved.
Najib said the introduction of the system was part of a commitment he made at the recent Umno general assembly that he would make the party more dynamic, progressive and open.
The online system would also make it easier for Malaysians studying abroad who wanted to join the party, he said.
He said applicants who register online would automatically become members if their particulars were in order.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said applicants would have temporary membership after they register until they were verified as members.
He said details of confirmed members would be forwarded to their respective branch of choice.
Umno has 3.5 million members and online registrations would help boost its membership.-The Star
