JOHOR BAHARU – UMNO must not take Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) lightly
but prepare for the 14th general election (GE14).
Johor Baharu UMNO division chief Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the Malay
party should realise that Pribumi was being established to defeat UMNO and
Barisan Nasional (BN).
“We must not be too confident of victory as this can cause us to lose,” he
told reporters after opening the Pasir Gudang UMNO division meeting, here today.
Also present was Johor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed
Khaled Nordin, who is also Pasir Gudang UMNO division chief.
Shahrir said statements made by Pribumi organisers show that the party was
not going to champion the people and provide an alternative.
“We (UMNO and BN) want power to provide development while Pribumi does not
mind losing. The party does not have a plan and only wants to see UMNO lose,”
said the Member of Parliament for Johor Baharu.
