KUALA LUMPUR: Admitting that Umno needs rejuvenation, party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak called on the younger members, referred to as JIL Umno, to be nurtured with the right values to lead the nation.
“The young generation at present are easily influenced and must be directed to the right path for the betterment of the nation.
“I and the rest of the party admit that the party needs to be rejuvenated and to stay relevant.
“Therefore, it is important that the upcoming generation of Umno leaders, also known as JIL Umno, need to have certain requirements,” he said when addressing the party’s annual general assembly at PWTC.
Najib said the JIL Umno should “firstly be well educated and understand the global needs for the progress of the country and the party.”
“Secondly they should have integrity and live by moderation whereby they are not driven by extremism.
“GIL Umno should also be grounded and never fail to appreciate eastern values no matter where they pursue their education,” he said.
He said Wanita Umno would be entrusted with the task of nurturing the young while he and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will supervise the growth of JIL Umno.-The Star
