KUALA LUMPUR – Kolej Universiti Agrosains Malaysia (UCAM) in collaboration with RISDA has embarked on the ‘Jejak Gelandangan’ programme to help homeless people nationwide.
The RM10,000 donated by RISDA will be distributed to five shelter homes for homeless people.
UCAM chairman Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh said they were trying to help the Anjung Singgah shelter home and homeless people in Jalan Chow Kit and Pudu areas.
“The donation given by RISDA is used to buy dry food and personal care items such as toothbrush, toothpaste and hair comb, in line with our social corporate responsibility”, he said at the launch of ‘Jejak Gelandangan’ programme at Anjung Singgah in Jalan Hang Lekiu, here today.
The programme also provides assistance in the form of skills training to increase employment opportunities for homeless people.
The National Welfare Foundation (NWF) reported some 4,000 cases of homeless people of whom 2,000 were putting up at Anjung Singgah in Jalan Hang Lekiu, Kuala Lumpur.
Also present at the event were RISDA chairman, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin; NWF chief executive officer, Datuk Rafek Reshidullah, and UCAM vice-chancellor, Datuk Dr Faridah Hanam Mohd Rashid. – BERNAMA
