KUALA LUMPUR – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Sheikh Abdullah Zayed Al Nahyan is currently on a two-day official visit to Malaysia beginning today.
During his visit, Abdullah who was accompanied by officials from the ministry is scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman at the latter\’s office in Putrajaya.
The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of mutual respect, a statement from Wisma Putra said.
Two memorandums of understanding between both governments are expected to be signed during the visit.
Abdullah is also scheduled to visit Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Special Functions Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein during the visit.
The statement added that UAE was the leading trade partner for Malaysia in West Asia region. It added that from January to September this year, total bilateral trade had recorded a double-digit growth by 24 percent to RM19.98 billion compared to RM16.11 billion for the same period last year.
Total trade volume between Malaysia and UAE in 2016 was RMM22.27 billion where total export recorded was RM12.58 billion and import amounted to RM9.69 billion.
