KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Under 23 (U-23) squad have been drawn in Group C together with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iraq for the U-23 AFC Cup Championship from Jan 9-27, 2018 in Changzhou, China.
Defending champions Japan are in Group B with North Korea, Thailand and Palestine, hosts China are in Group A with Qatar, Uzbekistan and Oman while South Korea, Australia, Syria and Vietnam are in Group D.
U-23 squad head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said he was aware of the tough task facing Malaysia regardless of the company as it involved the best teams in the Asian region.
“Malaysia have been drawn in the tough Group C. I believe the players will get invaluable experience from this tournament. We will try to advance to the next level because there is not much difference between the U-23 teams,” he told reporters when met after the draw here, today.
Malaysia qualified for the finals after emerging as Group H winners in the qualifying round played in Bangkok, Thailand, in July.
