KUALA LUMPUR: National Olimpic diver Ooi Tze Liang is named the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Olympian of the Year Award in the men’s category.
He was the most outstanding athlete in the Singapore SEA Games based on the achievement of four gold medals in the three metre men’s individual springboard and men’s individual 10 metres platform, three metres synchronized springboard and ten metres synchronized platform events.
When met by reporters, Tze Liang said he was satisfied as his efforts over the last thre three years to receive the award finally paid off.
“Although I am very happy, I don’t want this success to disturb my concentration to reap a medal at the Olympic Games next year,” he said after getting the award which was handed over by OCM president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’far at the OCM Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, here, today.
Tze Liang and another woman archery athlete Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh were the recipients of the 23rd award in history since it was contested in 1993. Each took home cheques of RM10,000 and medals.
