IPOH – Two navy personnel were killed when their vehicle collided with a lorry at Km 44, Jalan Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai, yesterday evening.
Both victims, Norkhaliza Mohd Yusof, 23, and Mohd Shukri Mohammad, 25, who served at the navy headquarters’ human resource division of the Defence Ministry in Kuala Lumpur, died at the scene at about 6.30 pm.
The lorry driver, Lai Hooi Siong, 26, did not sustain any injuries.
Ipoh District Traffic and Public Order chief DSP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Omar said initial investigations revealed the lorry driver lost control of the lorry due to the heavy rain and rammed the vehicle carrying the navy personnel that was coming from the opposite direction.
“The lorry was on its way to Ipoh from Kuala Terla. Investigation is still ongoing,” he said when contacted here today.
The bodies of the two victims had been brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
