KUALA LUMPUR – Two Malaysian men’s doubles pairs moved into the second round of the Korean Open Super Series Badminton Championships at the Olympic Gymnasium 2 in Seoul, South Korea, last night.
In the first round action Wednesday, the country’s number one pair Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong needed just 26 minutes to oust Jun Bong Chan/Kim Dae Eun from the host country, 21-15, 21-13 in straight sets.
Former All England champions Koo Kien Kiat/Tan Boon Heong disposed England’s Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge 21-16, 21-10 in another first round action.
Malaysia’s hopes in the men’s singles however, evaporated when Zulfadli Zulkiffli suffered a 14-21, 8-21 defeat to Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto.
Malaysia did not send representatives to participate in the women’s singles or doubles in the tournament that offers US$600,000 (RM2.539 million) as total prize money.
