GUA MUSANG – Gua Musang police chief Supt Saiful Bahri Abdullah said two men are feared to have been drowned after falling from a raft in Sungai Aring yesterday.
They were identified as Mohd Nor Abdul Rahman,47, from Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and Nasrul Hafiz Shahrudin, 29, from Taman Desa Rhu Sikamat, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
“The two men together with eight friends were having a picnic in Kuala Koh before borrowing a bamboo raft from the Orang Asli to go angling.
“The bamboo raft hit a rock in the middle of the river at 7pm and all 10 people on board fell and were swept away by strong currents.”
Saiful Bahri said eight others swam to safety while the two were missing.
The search operation involving the police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Department continues.
Survivor Maher Ali, 36, said: “I am thankful to be still alive but sadly, two of my friends are missing.” – BERNAMA
