SETIU – Two schoolgirls were killed in a collision involving three vehicles and three motorcycles at 47km Jalan Pantai Kuala Terengganu-Kg Raja near Kampung Telaga Papan today.
Cousins Fakhira Dalili Mohamad, 19, and Raja Nurul Nurdayana Raja Ahmad, 15, both students of SMK Penarik here died on the spot. They sustained head and leg injuries.
Setiu police chief DSP Ab Rahman Raja Mohamed said the cousins were travelling on a motorcycle when the crash occurred about 7.30am.
The bodies were sent to the Setiu Hospital. Three other victims involved in the crash sought out-patient treatment at the hospital.
Ab Rahman said initial investigations revealed that a four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man skidded and crashed into two cars and three motorcycles, including the machine in which the cousins were travelling on.
He said the crash resulted in another motorcyclist, Firdaus Mohammad
Ibrahim, 16, also a student from the same school, fracturing his left hand.
“Two other form three students of the school sustained minor injuries, as well,” he told Bernama here today.
Meanwhile in Dungun, a man was killed when his four-wheel-drive vehicle plunged into an irrigation canal at 7km Jalan Dungun-Bukit Besi near the Serdang water plant this morning.
The body of Law Ah Kam, 51, from Selangor, was found by an estate manager at 9am, about seven hours after the crash.
Dungun police chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub confirmed the crash. – BERNAMA
