KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has resigned as chairman of PROTON Holdings Bhd, effective March 30, 2016.
A letter of resignation to this effect was sent to Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM Bhd, Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar, yesterday.
A statement from the office of Dr Mahathir and posted on his blog “Che Det”, also said he had relinquished his post as Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) on the same date.
This decision has been communicated to UTP Rector, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim.
In addition, the statement said Dr Mahathir had resigned as advisor to the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), and the Tioman Island Development Authority (TIDA).
“The Chief Secretary to the Government has been informed of these resignations,” it added.
Meanwhile, Proton in a separate statement said Dr Mahathir would also step down as chairman of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Group Lotus plc.
“We respect his wish to step down. We would like to register our utmost appreciation for his valuable contribution, commitment and dedication to the role as Chairman since 2014, as well as an advisor since 2003.
“We express our gratitude and recognise Dr Mahathirâ€™s role as creator of the national car company,” it added. – BERNAMA
