SEREMBAN – Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir today called on people from all walks of life to be always alert and vigilant of the propaganda spread by extremist groups.
He reminded the public to oversee each family member so that they do not fall prey to the propaganda abusing the concept of jihad in the name of religion.
“People are shocked with security threats namely the extremist ideologies of the militants of the Islamic State (IS). This group tries to spread its influence to recruit members, especially young people, to join the IS on the basis of jihad.
“Let us not misinterpret the meaning of jihad until Muslims are seen in the eyes of the world as extremists and terrorists,” he said at the opening of the first sitting of the third session, of the 13th Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, here today.
Muhriz said the actions of a handful of extremist groups have resulted in increasingly tarnishing the image of Islam.
“Muslims must find a way to introduce Islam as a religion of peace and not one that leads to wars,” he said.
He also called on all the people to equally share the responsibility of eradicating crime in the state.
“The perception that maintaining peace and security of the state and country lies solely on the shoulders of the security forces must be erased from the minds of the people,” he said.
In another development, Tuanku Muhriz hoped that the state can contribute to the implementation of the National Agrofood Policy because it not only can ensure a reduction in the cost of living but is also one of the characteristics of a sustainable developing country.
He said although the contribution of agriculture to the Gross Domestic Product was only 7.6 per cent, the sector remains important and continues to be significant, particularly in improving food security and rural development. – BERNAMA
