KUALA LUMPUR – Commuters at the KL Sentral here had a pleasant experience early today as free Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) tickets were given out by juice brand, Tropicana Twister.
Through Tropicana’s ‘Eratkan Jalinan’ annual campaign aimed at bringing Malaysians together to celebrate Hari Raya, a total of 1,020 free train tickets were given out for journeys to Ipoh, Johor Bahru (JB) Sentral and Padang Besar at Gate B.
Permanis Sandilands Sdn Bhd Group marketing manager T.Santharuban said Tropicana had allocated 338 tickets for journeys on the Electric Train Service (ETS) from KL Sentral-Ipoh on July 14 at 9 am, and 338 tickets on July 15 at 9 am.
“The other 172 tickets are to JB Sentral on July 15 at 2.10 pm and 172 tickets to Padang Besar on the same day at 9.30 am,” he told reporter after giving out the tickets today.
He said the brand would also give out 400 free taxi rides via MyTeksi, including 300 in the Klang Valley, and five free flight tickets for lucky individuals to go back to their hometown.
“The promotion merely requires consumers to pre-book their destination via the MyTeksi application from June 29 until July 3 to ‘Balik Kampung’ from July 6 until July 15,” he said.
Meanwhile KTMB president Sarbini Tijan said through such programmes, KTM wanted to highlight a more convenient and safer mode of land transport, especially during the festive seasons besides reducing traffic jams and road accidents.
A military personnel, Ismayazi Ismail, 39, said he had queued up since 6 am to obtain two free ticket to travel back to Padang Besar.
“Since young, I like to use the trains as it is a different experience from taking the bus or other transportation, particularly during Hari Raya,” he said.
Nursery cook Ainaa Bahirah Azman, 26, was excited when she learnt about the free tickets via the Facebook social website since she intended to return to Johor Baharu for the celebration. – BERNAMA
