It was a tragic end for two couÂsins who were supposed to be enjoying their year-end school holidays.
Abdul Ghaffar Ibrahim, nine, and Azraie Mohamad Shariff, eight, were crossing Jalan Datuk Kumbar to go to the mosque to perform Isyak prayers on Wednesday night when they were knocked down by a vehicle.
They died instantly from multiple head and body injuries. The impact caused them to be flung a distance away.
Abdul Ghaffar was a Year Three pupil of SK Alor Setar, while Azraie was a Year Two pupil of SK Kuala Nerang.
Their fathers were devastated to learn of the tragedy.
Abdul Ghaffarâ€™s father, Ibrahim Ahmad, held back his tears when met the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital mortuary.
â€œI last saw my son at 7am before leaving for work,â€ he said.
Azraieâ€™s father, Mohamad Shariff Ahmad, 39, said his son, who was the third of five siblings, went to stay at his grandmotherâ€™s house for the holidays.
â€œI once dreamt that I nearly knocked him down when he was crossing a road. I never thought his life would end like this,â€™â€™ he said.
Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Adzaman Mohd Jan said investigations showed that the cousins suddenly crossed the road without seeing the vehicle.
â€œThe 20-year-old woman driver has lodged a police report on the accident.
â€œWe are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,â€ he said when contacted.-The Star
