KUALA LUMPUR – Traditional rivals Malaysia and Thailand set up a mouth-watering ISTAF Super Series men’s final today after beating their respective opponents at the Nakhon Pathom Municipal Gymnasium in Thailand.
In the semifinals Thursday, Malaysia powered by Muhammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Farhan Adam and Khairol Zaman Hamir Akhbar fought back from a set down to beat surprise package of the tournament, the Philippines 14,21, 21-11, 21-12.
Defending champion Thailand easily disposed Japan 21-8, 21-10 in straight sets to book their spot in the final Friday.
In the women’s category, Malaysia beat Japan 21-14, 21-17 to finish their campaign in fifth place.
The final is a culmination of three earlier series held in Naypyitaw, Myanmar (November 2014); Melaka, Malaysia (February 2015) and Gunsan City, South Korea (April 2015).
