KUALA LUMPUR – The Sessions Court here sentenced a trader to three years in prison for attempting to rob a 38-year-old woman of a gold necklace and causing hurt to the victim.
Mohamad Khairul Azwan Juraimi, 26, was meted out three years on the first charge of attempting to snatch M.
Sumathy’s gold necklace, and six months on the second charge of causing the victim to sustain injuries on her legs.
He pleaded guilty to committing the offences in front of Tune Hotel at Jalan Ipoh Kecil, Dang Wangi here, at 1.20 pm on Aug 25.
According to the facts of the case, the victim was standing in front of the hotel when Mohamad Khairul Azwan came on motorcycle and tried to snatch the gold necklace on her neck.
In the event, the victim fell down but as he tried to flee, Mohamad Khairul Azwan collided with a car and was nabbed and handed to Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
Judge Zaman Mohd Noor ordered the two sentences to run concurrently, effective from the trader’s arrest on Aug 25, 2017.
Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal appeared for the prosecution while counsel Keshreena Kaur Sidhu represented the trader. – BERNAMA
