KUALA LUMPUR – The defamation suit filed by Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament Tony Pua Kiam Wee against The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Bhd (NSTP), over an article published by New Straits Times newspaper was settled today.
The matter was resolved after both parties agreed to settle the suit. High Court judge Datuk Yeoh Wee Siam then recorded the settlement.
Lawyers Guok Ngek Seong represented Pua, while Claudia Cheah acted for NSTP.
Pua filed the suit in December last year, claiming that the article, with the title “Ex-DAP Man Raps Pua Over 1MDB Claims”, dated Nov 15, 2014, contained defamatory statements, which in their natural and ordinary meaning meant that he was an immoral politician, shameless and was not a capable businessman.
He sought general and aggravated damages, interest, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court. – BERNAMA
