BATU PAHAT – A two-year-old toddler drowned in a ditch after following his grandfather to pick rambutans some 60m away from their home in Parit Sulong here.
The 67-year-old man brought along his grandson Adam Amin Jefri to pick rambutans from a tree in front of his house in Kampung Mustafa around 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa said after picking the fruits, the grandfather forgot about Adam Amin and went straight home to take a nap.
“The senior citizen only realised that his grandson was missing after some villagers informed him that his grandson’s body was found floating in the 0.9m-deep ditch,” he said in a statement Thursday.
The grandfather rushed the victim to a nearby clinic in hopes to revive him but the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The case has been classified as sudden death, according to Bernama. – The Star Online
