KUALA LUMPUR – Tickets for the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur this year are expected to go on sale after the Hari Raya celebration, says Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong.
He said Masoc had also decided on events which would require tickets and those which were open to all for free.
“We have decided that sports which take place indoors and sports that are popular will be charged,” he told reporters at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Green Initiative which was officiated by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan.
“It includes a number of (sports) venues at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) where the venue cannot accommodate a large audience. So we’re imposing charges as a way to control the number of spectators,” said Zolkples.
Events which would not be ticketed, he added, were less popular sports such as boxing and weightlifting.
“We need the support from the audience to enliven some sports and if we impose a fee, there is a possibility the venue will not be filled (with spectators),” he said.
Zolkples said the opening and closing ceremonies would also be ticketed as it would involve great and exciting performances. – BERNAMA
