BINTULU – Three were killed while three others seriously injured when the car they were travelling crashed into a trailer near Jalan Simpang Sebauh, Bintulu â€“ Tatau while making a U-turn yesterday.
The three were identified as Cecelia Roja Dunstan Kemarau, 21, from Tatau, Radian Suenk, 24, from Belawai, and an eight-year-old boy, believed to be the son of the 29-year-old driver.
Bintulu District police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Mohammad said the driver Joseph Rawa and two passengers Raini Jilan, 24 and Oliver Empran, 20 suffered multiple injuries.
â€œSix of them are relatives and were travellng in a Perodua Kancil when it collided with the trailer coming from the opposite direction after making a U-turn. Their vehicle got stuck under the trailer and dragged off to the road shoulder in the 4.45pm incident,â€ he said.
Razak said the trailer driver who was travelling alone was not injured in the incident.
Earlier, Bintulu Fire and Rescue station received a distress call and dispatched nine firefighters and a vehicle to the scene, located about 20 kilometers away.
The operation chief Ahmad Rosli Salim said the team arrived at 5pm and it took them an hour to remove the victims from the wreckage. – NST
