KUALA LUMPUR – Former 2010 world championship runner-up, Koo Kien Kiat/Tan Boon Heong continued their blistering performance by winning the 2015 Dutch Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament at Topsportcentrum Almere Arena in the Netherlands for their third title of the season.
In the final yesterday, the seventh seeds pulled off a sensational 21-15, 21-10 win against second seeds, Manu Attri/B. Sumeeth Reddy of India in just 25 minutes reported the Badminton World Federation website www.bwfbadminton.org.
Koo/Tan, who made a comeback in the international arena in May, have won two back-to-back titles – Sri Lankan International Challenge in June and Russian International Challenge in July.
Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles had ended after Goh Soon Huat went down 14-21, 15-21 to eventual winner Ajay Jayaram from India.
Ajay continued his smashing performance by defeating 12th seed, Raul Must of Estonia; 21-12, 21-18 to lift the men’s singles title.
Malaysia did not send representatives in both the women’s singles and doubles, and also in mixed doubles event in the tournament which offers a total prize money of US$50,000 (RM206,800).
